This year was the first year of the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials and what a great year it was. Persevering through the onslaught of monsoon rains we were able to find a place to race and have nearly a thousand successful runs. These runs include records from small vintage bikes on up to the top time of the meet of over 241 MPH set by an electric streamliner KillaJoule with rider Eva Hakansson and her team. This was a year of adaptation and of overcoming long odds to make a successful week of racing. This wouldn’t have happened without the riders, the sponsors, and the collaboration of all of the salt flats race organizations. As we close out our 1st meet, we are looking forward to exciting racing from the USFRA World of Speed next week and towards another Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials in August 2015.
A special movie screening event will be happening Tomorrow Night (Saturday, Aug 23) at the boat ramp to the Bonneville International Speedway. This movie event will be a benefit for the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials and features two teams and many of the people who are racing here this week. This is movie that captures the spirit of Bonneville and the drive and passion that brings us out every year to race on this amazing salt flats.
Members of the cast and crew will be onsite and posters will be available for purchase ($5) to benefit the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials and support our sport!
When: TOMORROW! Saturday, Aug 23 2014 at Dusk (shortly after 8PM/20:00)
About the Film
“From the Pacific Northwest to Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats, this is the inspiring true story of four tenacious men who risk everything to conquer the records of motorcycle land speed racing.
Brothers Mark & Carl Bjorklund team up with friends Jason Omer and Bill Woods to overcome nearly impossible odds. They must work together as they battle mounting obstacles such as financial hardship, family issues, anxiety disorder, in-team conflict, severe weather, and hundreds of other racers… all while attempting to set records at breakneck speeds on homemade machines.
With each of the four men entering their own bike into the competition, they quickly discover that leaning on each other for help and resources just may be the most powerful tool of all. Showcasing valuable messages that apply to anyone who’s ever had a dream, their extraordinary journey will remind you how perseverance against all odds can send the most unlikely men roaring into glory.”
